“Oklahoma City Community College’s Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) Theater will host the International First Lady of Piano Teresa Walters on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at 7:30 pm.  Her performance is sponsored by the Ad Astra Foundation Series. Dr. Walters’s Artist Residency at OCCC will also include an informal career workshop for OCCC music students on May 1.  Individual and group tickets are available online or at the OCCC Box Office.

World-renowned pianist Teresa Walters began playing the piano at the age of 4 and has been described as the “International First Lady of Piano” by the New York Times because her mesmerizing performances on international stages have earned worldwide praise.  Walters has traveled the world performing in venues on six continents, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London and Moscow’s Great Hall.

Walters has sold out venues around the world.  She was the first American pianist invited to present three anniversary concerts in honor of Hungarian pianist Franz Liszt’s birthday.  The invitations included performances at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and the Liszt Museum in Budapest as well as at Liszt’s birthplace in Raiding, Austria.  Walters is known to be one of the finest interpreters of Liszt performing and recording today.

Austrian National Television describes Walters as “One of the world’s most significant pianists. She creates magic with the music.”

Teresa Walters earned her doctorate from the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University and currently resides in New York City with her husband.”

“Western New Mexico University’s Spring Showcase presents world-renowned concert pianist Teresa Walters on February 26, 2019 at 7 pm in Light Hall Theater at WNMU.  Walters, who is described as “The International First Lady of Piano” by the New York Times, is featured on the 3rd Annual President’s Chamber Music Series.

Walters, an International Steinway Artist, is scheduled to perform music by a variety of composers and speak to the audience in her popular “Keynote Comments” format.  Her program, entitled “Celebrating Our World” honors cultural diversity. In a recent interview, she remarked:  “The program is a focus on all we have in common as human beings. The focus in this day and age can be on what divides us, but there is so much more that unites us all.  The music of the great composers belongs to all of us,” she continued.  “It unites the human condition.” 

Walters performs worldwide and began this concert season on tour in Alaska.  She recently returned from prestigious performances in Rome, Zurich, Copenhagen and Beijing. She has become one of the most widely traveled concert pianists in history with performances spanning 6 continents, 50 states and most of the Canadian provinces.  Her concert is co-sponsored by Western Institute for Lifelong Learning and Edward Jones Investments.

“Internationally acclaimed concert pianist Teresa Walters performs at First Baptist Church, Dublin on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.  Her program “Celebrating Our World” features music from multiple composers and honors the world’s shared heritage and common humanity. 

Teresa Walters is described by the New York Times as ‘The International First Lady of Piano,” because her mesmerizing performances on today’s international stages earn worldwide praise.  Her prestigious invitations to perform in honor of the Liszt Bicentennial included Copenhagen’s Hungarian Embassy and Beijing’s Forbidden City Concert Hall.  In 2017-18, she performed a celebrated 500th Birthday Party program in major world capitals in commemoration of the Quincentennial of the Reformation. 

In recent years, Walters has performed as recitalist and orchestral soloist on six continents and in most of the 50 United States at venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, the Salle Cortot in Paris, Moscow’s Great Hall, Australia’s International Conservatorium and Jerusalem’s Concert Hall.  She has also performed at Vienna’s Beethoven Festival and at Spanish Music festivals in Barcelona and Madrid.  Her all-Liszt Lincoln Center recital in New York earned a standing ovation from a capacity crowd.
