“Concordia University presents “An Evening with the International First Lady of Piano Teresa Walters” on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Buetow Music Auditorium on campus.  Her program “Celebrating Our World” features music from multiple composers and honors the world’s shared heritage and common humanity. 

Dr. Walters’s performance is part of an Artist Residency that includes a Masterclass for students on Friday afternoon Nov. 8.  Teresa Walters is an International Steinway Artist.  The piano for both events is provided by Schmitt Music. 

Teresa Walters has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, the Salle Cortot in Paris, Moscow’s Great Hall, Australia’s International Conservatorium and Jerusalem’s Concert Hall.  She has also performed at Vienna’s Beethoven Festival and at Spanish Music festivals in Barcelona and Madrid.  Her all-Liszt Lincoln Center recital in New York earned a standing ovation from a capacity crowd. 

In a recent season, she performed a celebrated 500th Birthday Party program commemorating the Quincentennial of the Reformation in major world capitals. In addition to maintaining an extensive international touring schedule, she is recording a series of releases for Archangelus Records featuring the sacred piano works of Liszt.  Her recordings have received nominations for the Grand Prix du Disque of the Hungarian Liszt Society.

“World-renowned Steinway Artist Teresa Walters performs in Indianapolis in Hall Theatre at  Marion University on Sunday, October 27 at 2 p.m.  The concert is the culminating event of the University’s Homecoming Weekend festivities. 

Widely considered to be one of the world’s most uniquely gifted virtuoso pianists, Teresa Walters is a popular favorite both for her playing and for her gracious manner of relating to the audience in her “Keynote Comments.”  Austrian National Television recently announced:  “Teresa Walters is that rare musical phenomenon – a pianist born to the instrument.  One of the world’s most significant pianists, she creates magic with the music.” 

Walters’s program is titled:  ‘A Musical Celebration of Our World’ and is part of a global tour this season including performances in Rome, Zurich, Amsterdam and St. Petersburg.”

“Internationally acclaimed concert pianist Teresa Walters, described by The New York Times as “The International First Lady of Piano” performs on the Marquis Series at Coe College on Friday, October 18 at 7:00 PM. 

The Marquis Series has a long tradition of bringing high-quality entertainment and outstanding performers to the Cedar Rapids community- the kinds of performances that you would typically have to travel to major metropolitan areas to experience and enjoy. 

Described by Austrian National Television and The New York Times as “one of the world’s most significant pianists,” and The International First Lady of Piano,” Teresa Walters’s mesmerizing performances on today’s international stages have earned worldwide praise.  She has performed as recitalist land orchestral soloist on six continents and in most of the 50 United States.  She is the first American pianist invited to perform at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and Museum in Budapest in an annual gala concert celebrating the composer’s birthday. 

A native of the American Midwest, Walters earned a doctorate from Peabody Conservatory and lives in the New York City area.  This year she is touring internationally with her acclaimed program “Celebrating Our World,” honoring the world’s shared heritage and common humanity.

The Marquis Series is funded by a gift from the estate of Sarah Marquis in honor of her father, Dr. John A. Marquis, President of Coe College from 1909-1920.  The purpose of the series is to bring entertainment and educational presentations to the campus for the benefit of the entire community.”

“The CCU School of Music is proud to present special Guest Artist Teresa Walters in an Artist Residency at the University on October 7 and 8.  Dr. Walters will conduct a Masterclass for students on Monday, October 7 at 4:30 p.m.  Her solo recital follows on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Both events are open to the public and will be held in the Concert Hall Auditorium.

Teresa Walters is described as “The International First Lady of Piano” by the New York Times because her mesmerizing performances on today’s international stages earn worldwide praise.  Her prestigious invitations to perform in honor of the recent Liszt Bicentennial included Copenhagen’s Hungarian Embassy and Beijing’s Forbidden City Concert Hall. 

She recently returned from prestigious performances in Rome, Zurich, Copenhagen and Beijing. She has become one of the most widely traveled concert pianists in history with performances spanning 6 continents, 50 states and most of the Canadian provinces.  Her concert promises to be an amazing night.”

Teresa Walters earned her Doctorate from Peabody Conservatory and has lived most of her adult life in the New York City area.  She and her husband share their urban home with cats Max and Coco; they share their lake house cottage with outdoor wildlife including songbirds, swans, herons, eagles, bears and deer.  Her favorite hobby is bird watching.  Her favorite cause is animal welfare.  Her favorite dessert is crème brulée.  Her favorite literature is the Book of Psalms.

“Described as The International First Lady of Piano by the New York Times, Teresa Walters has performed as recitalist and orchestral soloist on six continents and in most of the fifty United States.  Known for her commitment to music as the ultimate universal language and for her vision of music as ministry, Walters will bring a grand scale performance to Tyler-Tallman Hall. 
Teresa Walters began playing the piano at the age of 4.  Since then, her mesmerizing performances on international stages have earned worldwide praise, selling out venues around the world. 

She was the first American pianist invited to present three anniversary concerts in honor of Hungarian composer Franz Liszt’s birthday.  The invitations included performances at the Liszt Academy of Music and the Liszt Museum in Budapest as well as at Liszt’s birthplace in Raiding, Austria.  Walters is known to be one of the finest interpreters of Liszt performing and recording today.
