3 Views from the Stage during Pandemic Recovery – Fall 2021

“What a joy to begin in-person performance again!  The blessings of sharing live music with audiences across the country outweigh the many challenges!  I love both the Pacific Northwest and historic venues, so I chose an Artist Residency at Washington State’s Cutter Theatre. This event was postponed and rescheduled 3 times!  At the last minute, my husband traveled with me because presenters offered a beautiful private home with a view of bald eagles soaring about the Pend Oreille River!  A “student event” became 3 student events due to social distancing requirements.  I will never forget a small boy raising his hand after one performance to say:  “I didn’t even know I liked piano music!!!”  Nothing prepared me for seeing audiences of young and old wearing masks.  And nothing prepared me for arriving in Salt Lake City at 3 a.m. when I was scheduled to arrive in Spokane instead…”

“World-renowned concert pianist Teresa Walters will delight audiences with a program featuring music by Liszt, Glinka and Balakirev on Sept. 24, 2021 at 7 p.m.  The concert is the culminating event of a week-long Artist Residency at the historic Cutter Theatre.

Her program “Music of Hope & Healing” addresses the world’s recovery from COVID-19 and includes the artists’ personal insights about life and music in her Keynote Comments remarks.

In the days prior to her formal concert, Dr. Walters is scheduled to meet with area students to perform informal sessions with various school groups.  Her Artist Residency is a unique opportunity for our area to interact with a world-renowned concert pianist as she travels to our region to share her artistic gifts.”

“During the pandemic, a University in the Raleigh-Durham area waited 2 years to dedicate a magnificent new Concert Steinway.  I was very blessed by the faculty, staff, and music students of Campbell University and by the Master Class among them the next day.  I admire and applaud music students and faculty across the country and around the world for the courage and creativity they have shown throughout the pandemic.”

World-Renowned Pianist Performs for Concert Steinway Dedication

“A musician the New York Times hailed as “The International First Lady of Piano” will perform in Hobson Performance Center Tuesday night for a concert dedicating the University’s new Steinway Concert Grand piano.

Teresa Walters – a Steinway Artist who has performed on six continents and all over the U.S. in venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, Moscow’s Great Hall and the Salle Cortot in Paris – will perform selections from 19th Century Hungarian composer Franz Liszt and Russian composers Glinka and Balakirev on the new nine-foot concert grand piano gifted to the University in 2020 by the Donnie Royal Foundation in memory of Dr. Donnie Royal and his wife Dorothy Royal.

The concert will be a unique opportunity to watch and hear one of the world’s premiere pianists.  Austrian National Television called Teresa Walters “one of the world’s most significant pianists.”  And the American Record Guide wrote of her:  “Walters’s competition is virtually nil.”  She is the first American pianist invited to present three anniversary concerts in honor of Liszt’s birthday with performances at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and the Liszt Museum in Budapest, Liszt’s Birthplace in Raiding, and at Esterhazy Palace under the patronage of Prince Anton Esterhazy.

Walters’s performance is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday.  The concert will highlight the Hobson Performance Center.  The auditorium was completed in 2019 and is now a premier space for performing arts.  It’s quickly earning a reputation as one of the area’s top performance venues.”

“Among the lessons the pandemic has taught us is that the world is all in this together.  In the world of music, pianos on stages everywhere have been silent far too long.  Pianos are meant to be played.  I am especially grateful to the Steinway Gallery in Little Rock, AR.  A superb piano technician spent an entire day and considerable effort preparing a piano for my concert there that night.  I give thanks for collegiality with piano technicians everywhere at this challenging time.  Without their dedication and expertise, I could not walk out on stage to make music…”

“International Steinway Artist Teresa Walters performs Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Reves Recital Hall of Trieschmann Fine Arts Center. Her program Music of Hope & Healing includes music by virtuoso pianist Franz Liszt and Russian composers Mikhail Glinka and Mily Balakirev.  The program also features her popular Keynote Comments.

Walters is recognized as one of the world’s premiere pianists.  Her biography could be written from today’s headlines:  “Teresa Walters Plays Piano on Grand Scale” (The Cincinnati Inquirer); “Her Hands Create Cascades of Luminescence” (The Washington Post); “A Liszt of Very Fine Performances” (The Budapest Sun);  “Bright Shining Star in Recital”  (El Norte, Mexico);  “Teresa Walters Holds Keys to Audience’s Hearts”  (The Record).

At home on stages of the world’s greatest concert halls or in campus and community settings, Walters is known for her commitment to music as the ultimate universal language and for her vision of music as ministry.  She performs on six continents at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, Moscow’s Great Hall and Vienna’s Beethoven Festival.  Her recordings have won nominations for the Grand Prix du Disque of the Hungarian Liszt Society and will be available at the concert.”
