The Turtle Sermon 2020:

Every year, on a day in June, we receive a special visitor at the lake. She and her ancestors are among God’s earliest creatures. This year’s visit was exceptional and she seemed to have a special message for all of us. Maybe that is why we first noticed her by our mailbox. This means that she walked all the way up our back sidewalk, all the way around the house, all the way up our front sidewalk and then repeated her entire journey in reverse. No small endeavor on little turtle legs.

By the time we went out to see if she needed help or protection, she had already chosen her spot near the mailbox, prepared a small trench beside the front step and was about to lay her eggs. When she began her long journey back to the lake, she consented to a photo op as she passed our front door. This was her 2020 message to me and she has asked me to share it you:

In times of challenge, carry on. Fulfill your mission. Keep the Faith. Do not lose hope. Combine courage with perseverance. Accept God’s timing. And take Life one step at a time.
